On Friday, April 2nd, the State Board for Educator Certification unanimously approved a new plan that allows college graduates to teach in their field of expertise by simply taking two tests, a TExES content exam and a TExES PPR exam. They no longer have to take the many education courses that were previously required. By passing these exams, they demonstrate that they are:

  1. an expert in their field (math, biology, chemistry, English, etc.), and,
  2. knowledgeable about how students learn, and, therefore, how teachers should teach.

This ruling only applies to teachers of 8 through 12 grades. Most college graduates can pass their content area TExES exams because they know their subject matter. The second exam, however, requires special knowledge about teaching, or, pedagogy. The name of that exam is the TExES PPR 8-12.

TExES Master 2005 PPR 4-12©, produced by HELP, Inc. (Higher Education Learning Products, Inc.), has a 99% success rate at helping students pass their PPR TExES exams.

The TExES Master 2005 products are a compilation of the most critical knowledge about good teaching that is taught in most University education courses.

The product, which consists of a video, a set of 184 flash cards, a full length TExES practice exam (with full answer explanations), and an Online Review with over 200 websites. The sites link to current valid places on the web that are full of accurate information relevant to the TExES PPR. The product also features a small booklet called the TExES Master Competency Overview©. The booklet concentrates on the good teaching competencies that great teachers possess. This booklet is designed so that the student can keep it with him or her to review periodically during the 6 week preparation period.

The three products offered by HELP, Inc. are TExES Master 2005 PPR EC-4©, TExES Master 2005 PPR 4-12©, and TExES Master 2005 EC-4 Generalist©. All of these products were authored by education professors who are currently teaching at Texas universities. Dr. Sandra McCune, education professor at Stephen F. Austin University, brings her invaluable expertise and knowledge of the Texas teacher certification testing program to the TExES Master 2005 EC-4 Generalist© product. She has reviewed the TExES Master PPR products and fully endorses them.

Support for Teachers with the New Certificate Suggested

The State Board for Educator Certification issued guidelines suggesting that school districts give 80 hours of training to teachers holding these new certificates before school starts and another 300 hours during the first two-year period. The Board wants to make sure that the new teachers have the support they need to be good, solid teachers.

This new plan starts with the 2004-2005 school year in the fall. Teachers who qualify for the temporary certification and receive a favorable recommendation at the end of the 2 year period can obtain a standard certificate to teach that is good for five years.

3 New Steps to Get Your Texas Teacher Certification If You Have a Degree
(Secondary only)

  1. Pass the TExES exam in your content area (this will be relatively easy--it was your major!)
  2. Obtain TExES Master 2005 PPR 4-12, which gives you a money-back- guarantee--over several thousand sold to date--only 6 people have had to ask for their refund. This product is a compilation of important information taught in University Education courses regarding Pedagogy--how students learn, and, thus, how teachers should teach. Learning this material will give you a great foundation to become an excellent teacher.
  3. With the completion of your 6 week TExES Master 2005 PPR 4-12 course, pass your TExES PPR 8-12 examination. With some additional training by your ISD, you can now obtain your Texas teaching certificate.
