At this point, you may be asking yourself what makes
Art so qualified to create such a program? The truth is, Art is not and
that is the reason why he has highly qualified Education Professors,
currently teaching at Texas Universities providing all of the information
for the TExES Master series of products.
It is true that Art created the
original product (ExCET Master—the
ExCET exams have since been replaced by the TExES exams). He developed
the concept of having a video with a set of flash cards with the information
needed to excel on the teacher certification examinations. He did this
originally to help him pass his exams. When he scored in the 90-percentile
range, he realized he had serendipitously come across a concept that
could help others students pass their exams. That was 10 years ago!
It did
not take long for Art to realize that he needed technical input from
experts in the field—namely University Education Professors—to
help develop high quality products. The quality had to be so high so
that his company could remain the only company to offer a money-back-guarantee
if customers did not pass their exams.
One of the TExES Master consultants
has just earned the Stephen F. Austin University title of Regents Professor,
the highest honor bestowed by the university. Dr. Sandra McCune, professor
of elementary education received the honor in July with a vote of the
SFA board of regents.
Academic deans, with the assistance of previous regents professors,
review nominations and make recommendations to the president. The honorees
are in turn approved by the board.
McCune, a native of Nacogdoches,
first came to SFA as a student and earned a bachelor’s degree in
mathematics, German and physics in 1970. She received her master’s
in mathematics in 1975 while working as a math and science teacher in
Nacogdoches County public schools. She started teaching at SFA in 1979
and completed her Ph.D. in adult education at Texas A&M University
in 1988.
She has received the Teaching Excellence
Award from both the Department of Secondary Education and the university,
the Student Government Association Outstanding Faculty Award and the
University Professional Women Woman of the Year Award.
"Dr. McCune is an exceptional teacher, and students in this department
consistently marvel at her teaching abilities," said Dr. Mel Finkenberg,
chair of the Department of Kinesiology. "I have had the privilege
of working with her on a number of research projects. She is a clear
thinker who is consistently able to dissect and understand the nature
of all inquiries."
This program is designed from a student's point of view!
